Getting rid of stray cats?

Well you can get a Lion dung based repellent, but that might be gross too. I asked the cat defense league for advice on behalf of an Indian lady downstairs with this problem. They told me that it's harmless to get a water pistol or squeezy bottle and squirt them, they don't like water and will quit coming.
