My cat is limping, his front left paw is hurt, what could it be?

I have been moving the paw and pressing on it gently to see if I can get a response out of him. When I move the elbow area he meows everytime. What could this be? He's an indoor/outdoor cat so he could have hurt something that way, I just don't know what.
