I moved and my cat is a outdoor cat, will he never come back?

I've had a outdoor cat for 7yrs and we just moved to a different house. We locked him in my room for 1 night( his first night being here) with food, water, and some litter in a box. Then, this afternoon, we let him outside. He has no clue what the inside of this house looks like(only my room). So, will he come back? Also, we have a very playful dog that likes to hurt small creatures and he has been wanting to prounce on my cat very much since he came over here yesterday. Will my cat never come back because he's scared of my dog?
